American singer-songwriter Jewel performed at UNCG

I had the pleasure of photographing world famous American singer-songwriter Jewel, who performed at UNCG this month for their 2024 concert and lecture series.

Jewel Kilcher, mononymously known as Jewel, is an American singer-songwriter. She has received four Grammy Award nominations and, as of 2021, has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Jewel was raised near Homer, Alaska, where she grew up singing and yodeling as a duo with her father, Atz Kilcher, a local musician.

Jewel performed for an audience of about 1000 that evening and it was a terrific show! I have had the opportunity to photograph many amazing acts at the UNCG auditorium over the last 10 years as a freelancer and this was right up there with the best.

It was great having such a close angle to the stage and capturing a wide variety of expressions as she sung songs and told stories about her career and upbringing in Alaska.

She played about an hour and a half set for us and then concluded the evening with a Q&A with a professor from the university. She also took a few questions from the enthusiastic audience.

I love the many different projects I have been able to capture in the almost 20 years I have been a professional photographer and appreciate all the amazing work UNCG has asked me to capture as well.
