Bryson City, NC: Perfect weekend getaway for our 20th annv.

Erin and I visited the quaint town of Bryson City, NC to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and to also capture some content for my fine art/landscape portfolio.  This trip was epic and we got to see so many cool places during our three night stay.

We rented a cute Airbnb only a few miles from downtown and it was perfectly located to so many attractions.  The Creekside Cottage was right on the river with a panoramic views and surrounding nature areas.  The rental also had a jacuzzi and outdoor area with firepit only 3 feet from the river bed.  I have included their rental link at the bottom of this blog post.

We had a few planned items on our to do list, but the most fun part of this trip was just waking up and grabbing coffee to then see where we'd end up.  We love to travel so much and always have a plan in place to make sure we see everything, but this getaway was the perfect balance of both.  We enjoyed the trip even more with our little baby Bristol Gray.

The first full day included checking out the downtown area and near by hiking trails.  Downtown Bryson City has a great selection of shops, restaurants and some breweries to choose from.  The town also has a big train attraction, The Great Smokey Mountains Railroad.  After lunch we were sure to check out Island Park, which was walking distance from downtown and crossed the river to see some beautiful nature and one of the largest trees we have even seen.  It had to be a few hundred feet tall.

We then spent most of the afternoon back at our rental, making a fire and enjoying that amazing view by the river while cooking dinner by the open fire.  I even had enough courage to do a 10 minute cold plunge in the river.  It was perfectly cold :)

Our last full day was mostly spent in the car visiting the surrounding areas.  The first stop was to visit the "Road to Nowhere" tunnel which was only about 10 minutes from our rental.  It was a very interesting place and certainly worth looking up the story online and learning about the history.  We got there early in the day which allowed us to be the only ones there for at least 30 minutes.  We walked through the eerie tunnel to the end and then ventured on top of the tunnel to see some intricate artwork/graffiti.

We then drove about 40 minutes to the Nantahala Outdoor Center which is a major through way for the Appalachian Trail.  We even got to see some through hikers along the way, walking from South to North.  It was an awesome experience!

If you have not been to Bryson City, I highly recommend it.  It was a great time with tons to do and a laid back atmosphere and most importantly it was very dog friendly everywhere we went :)
